NLP and LDS

My dear husband challenged me one night.  In passing he said, if something is based on correct principals it will be provable and hold through, or generalize, across settings. .

I thought, if the NLP programs are based on correct principles I should be able to find congruency in the programs with my religion.  In fact, I thought, if I can’t find that congruency, I should drop NLP.  I took up the challenge.

Here are a few of my thoughts of NLP and the LDS church.

This is not meant to be a forum for discussion.  If your beliefs are similar I invite you to browse and enjoy. If your beliefs different and your find this is incongruent to you, simply move on.

Quotes

"Tribulation, afflictions, and trials will constantly be with us in our sojourn here in this segment of eternity, just as the Savior said, “In the world ye shall have tribulation.” (John 16:33.) Therefore, the great challenge in this earthly life is not to determine how to escape the afflictions and problems, but rather to carefully prepare ourselves to meet them." --Angel Abrea, "Patience in Affliction", Ensign, May 1992, 25

You are the strength of the present, the hope of the future.  You are the sum of all the generations that have gone before, the promise of all that will come hereafter.

 ---Gordon B Hinckley

A man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of his thoughts.

 ---  Spencer W. Kimball

The Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
Forever in the next.
Amen. --Reinhold Niebuhring(1892-1971)

Logical Level Alignment and Conference Talk

One way I have seen it done is to search for anything on which we agree. To be that peacemaker, you need to have the simple faith that as children of God, with all our differences, it is likely that in a strong position we take, there will be elements of truth. The great peacemaker, the restorer of unity, is the one who finds a way to help people see the truth they share. That truth they share is always greater and more important to them than their differences. You can help yourself and others to see that common ground if you ask for help from God and then act. He will answer your prayer to help restore peace, as He has mine.  –Henry B. Eyring  From conference talk 11/08

Some scriptures and quotes that are dear to my NLP heart.

2 Nephi 2:25

“… men are that they might have joy”

St. John 10:10

“…I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

St. Mark 9:23

“Jesus said unto him, ‘If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.’”

Proverbs 23:7

“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.”

St. Mark 10:51-52

“And Jesus answered and said unto him, ‘What wilt thou that I should do unto thee?...And Jesus said unto him, go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole.’”

Romans 8:28

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God…”

Mark 9:24

“…the father of the child cried out , and said with tears, ’Lord, I believe, help me in my unbelief.’”

Matt. 5: 48

Be ye therefore perfect even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect

)Perfect may also be translated whole or complete)

Matthew 6:28-29, 34

“…Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin; and yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these…”

“Take therefore no thought for the morrow; for the morrow shall take thought for things of itself.”

Matthew 22:35-40

Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying. “Master, which is the great commandment in the law?”

Jesus said unto him, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all they heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

This is the first and great commandment.

And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
